When it comes to s13 convertible roll bars, especially "bolt-in/weld-in" ones, there aren't many options out there. Furthermore, it's questionable whether the roll bar will give proper helmet clearance, work with the automatic factory top, and allow interior panels to be retained.
DavisFab's roll bar kit for the 240sx convertible makes all of the above possible as well as being fully legal for SCCA, NASA, and other HPDE events where the minimum requirement is a 4 point roll bar for soft-top convertibles. It is designed to sit as high as possible with roll bar padding installed while still allowing the soft top to open and close without obstruction. It can be customized to be lower or sit at a different angle during installation. The harness bar, which is pre-welded, is made specifically to work with aftermarket sidemount bucket seats for optimum racing harness angle (angle will vary slightly depending on seat, seat bracket, and driver seating position).
This kit also allows the diagonal cross bar to either point toward the top of the driver side or passenger side (not specified in SCCA or NASA road racing rule book). Some Racing Organizations require the top of brace to be pointed toward the driver side. The main hoop is built so it can be set up either way and is up to the discretion of the installer.
The roll bar kit may require slight modification depending on the condition of the car in which it is being installed ( i.e. frame damage, other mods). Some cutting of the rear firewall will be required to weld in the rear leg base plates. Professional installation, as well as aftermarket sidemount bucket seats and safety harnesses, are highly recommended for this weld-in kit.
Specifications:
- 1.75" x .120" DOM tubing
- 12 Gauge mild steel base plates
- Just under 48 lbs total weight
- Part or all of roll bar will be primered to prevent surface rust from forming at the welds

Installation Instructions
Installation Tips:
- Working with the top down will make for an easier install.
- If you can have a friend help with a few steps that will make it easy for some areas.
- Do not weld anything till you are sure where it will be placed.
- Using tack welds can help for mock up procedures.
Installation Notes:
1. Remove all rear interior panels, including seats, seat belts, and side panels.
2. Remove paint from the rear shock tower brace and lower seat area where you will be installing the base plates. Using a grinder or a disc sander on an air angle grinder is highly recommended.
3. Make sure that there is no paint or oil left on the surface to be welded. This leaves the best surface for welding and insures a proper weld.
4. Next, test-fit the base plates for the lower seat area, so that it fits near the side panel and the small hump.
5. Put the main hoop on top of the base plates. This will give you an idea of how the roll bar will sit in the car. If possible, have a friend hold the bar upright if it doesn't stay (this is only to mock up the rear legs).
6. Attach the rear legs to the main hoop. Have it sit so that the legs also touch the rear factory shock tower brace.
7. Have it so that all the bars are sitting snug. If it's tack welded or held on by a friend, then it will be helpful.
8. Make a mark around the tube on the lower seat area base plate. This will tell you where to place the weld for the main hoop to the base plate. If you prefer, you can tack weld it.
9. Once all the areas are marked or tack welded, you can either proceed to remove that bars from the car and weld it, or weld it inside the car.
10. Make sure the weld the rear base plates.
11. After the welds have cooled, remember to spray primer on the welds. This will prevent surface rust and other contaminants.
12. If you choose, you can paint the hoop. A simple preparation of lightly sanding the tubes and making sure it is oil free will help in painting.

| I found a picture of my car posted on autoblog from this past weekend. Everyone loved how the roll bar looked. My mini-review of the event along w/ the link to the autoblog pictures can be found here: http://www.bewbews.com/2008/02/25/greddy-festival-08-autocross |
