It is important to have the crank bearing cap secured with tight tolerances at high RPM and load. Original main bolts have concentrated stress at only 1/3 of its length making that section very weak. Any more torque will most likely break the bolt. These reinforced main studs allow the stress to be dispersed evenly along the threading and secure the bearings.
